Executive Office of the President

The Executive Office of the President (EOP) is a collection of offices and councils that support the president in governing the executive branch. Created in 1939 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the EOP comprises over 2,000 employees across specialized offices handling national security, economic policy, space exploration, and environmental protection.

The White House Staff and Operations

At the center of the EOP is the White House Office, the staff working closest to the president. The White House Chief of Staff oversees daily operations, while other key roles include the White House Press Secretary, the White House Communications Director, and the Staff Secretary who manages information flow to the president. Key advisors include speechwriters who shape the president’s public message and the White House Counsel, who provides legal guidance.

National Security and Intelligence

The National Security Council serves as the principal forum for the president to deliberate on foreign policy, national security, and military strategy. The NSC coordinates responses to threats from cyber defense to climate change and critical supply chains like microchips. It also shapes China strategy.
