State Voting Rules Lookup
Pick a state to see its rules on registering, ID at the polls, voting by mail and early voting for the Nov. 3, 2026, general election, each drawn from and linked to an official government source. Where a rule isn’t listed, the result says where to check. GovFacts has not yet checked the rules for New Hampshire and New York; those results point to the state election office.
How to answer this
Rules can change close to an election. Each rule links to its source, so check the date and the source before a deadline.
The state lookup needs JavaScript. Without it, check with the state election office for deadlines and ID rules.
Two federal rules on help with voting:
- Federal law lets any voter who needs help voting because of blindness, disability or inability to read or write get help from a person the voter chooses, other than the voter’s employer or an agent of that employer, or an officer or agent of the voter’s union. U.S. Code
- In federal elections, each polling place must have at least one voting system equipped for people with disabilities, giving them the same opportunity to vote privately and independently as other voters. U.S. Code
