Pregnancy and Maternity Care

Pregnancy and maternity care spans the medical, financial, and social supports available to people before, during, and after childbirth. This includes prenatal checkups, labor and delivery, postpartum recovery, and the health of infants in their earliest months. Government plays a role at nearly every stage, from funding health services to setting coverage rules for insurance.

Coverage and cost. Health insurance for pregnancy works differently than for most other medical needs, since it involves care for both parent and child over an extended period.
