GovFacts Pulse is an experiment in making it easier to track what is happening across government. We consolidate updates from across agencies and leading elected officials and allow you to filter to see updates of highest interest.
Please contact us if you have ideas for how to make this feature more useful or interesting for you.
Our Approach
Government Branches
We syndicate RSS updates from the White House, federal agencies, and Congress. When these agencies do not offer RSS feeds, we monitor these pages and turn updated news content into feeds using specialized software. This process accounts for much of the variation you may see in the metadata that describes these posts.
For all official updates, we prioritize press releases because these capture key priorities and messaging. Some agencies only offer more general news pages.
The Supreme Court does not offer particularly user-friendly updates. As a service to readers, we syndicate SCOTUSblog, a well-respected and nonpartisan source of analysis and updates.
We know this feature generates a lot of updates, so we have curated the list of agencies that are in our judgment most likely to share items of interest. We welcome feedback on sources to add.
Elected Officials
We feature officials who serve visible leadership roles in the executive branch and Congress. This generally means that folks must be a majority or minority leader in Congress or serve in the US cabinet. Supreme Court justices as a matter of policy do not manage social media profiles.
Since Pulse is intended to highlight the work and thinking of current government leaders, we do not highlight political leaders without formal leadership roles.
We use the feed published by a third-party website to fetch the Truth Social posts for President Trump. This does not indicate an endorsement of the third-party site.
Otherwise, we use the personal (public) X accounts of elected officials to highlight their thinking. Where these accounts do not appear to be active, we default to official public X accounts.
Staff for elected officials may contact us if they prefer to syndicate a different, more active social feed that meets the above criteria.
