Government Digital Health Initiatives

In July 2025, the White House launched a major digital health initiative, supported by over 60 healthcare and technology companies, to create a patient-centric healthcare ecosystem. Led by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), this initiative focuses on interoperability that allows seamless sharing of health information between patients and providers. CMS plans to add a digital app library to Medicare.gov, featuring trusted tools for prevention, chronic disease management, and care navigation.

Data Sharing and Interoperability

Central to health technology is secure data sharing across diverse systems. CMS’s Interoperability Framework sets standards to enable smooth flow of patient information among electronic health records, insurance, and digital applications. By 2026, CMS aims to introduce modern digital identity solutions to simplify patient access to records without multiple credentials. These efforts empower patients and providers with timely, secure data exchange, advancing personalized and efficient care.

Health Technology in Federal Systems

Health technology also supports specialized federal healthcare systems, such as those serving military personnel. The Department of Defense’s implementation of advanced digital tools is exemplified by the Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Portal, which demonstrates how federal agencies apply digital health solutions to enhance medical record management, appointment scheduling, and care coordination for military beneficiaries.
